Grimm & Grateful!
Posted by Antonio Lovett - Grimm on Feb 8th 2021
As we approach 4 years in business on March 24, 2021, I thought it would be appropriate to say a few words as to what inspired me to bring Grimm into fruition.
I was blessed to have known and spent time with my great grandmother, Amy Lovett. She ran a small catering company from home, down south in Atlanta, Georgia. Every year, she would have huge catering orders for hot wings for Super Bowl parties. But, mama A, hated cutting up the peppers, (which she grew herself, and I helped!), that she needed to fulfill those orders. As the eldest grandson, it became my job to prep those peppers for the best hot wings in Atlanta.
Seasons change, and I became a visual artist in Seattle. One day, while hanging paintings in Sound FX Café in lower Queen Anne, I was approached by a gentleman who saw me sell one of my pieces. He was so impressed, that he asked me if I would be interested in selling Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce at Pike Place Market. That question and my response would forever change my world.
That night, I went home and researched everything I could find on Bhut Jolokia, more commonly referred to as Ghost Pepper. I also learned about capsaicin and the Scoville Heat Index. I took to the Market and hot sauce like a Flying Fish to air. (Those of you who know, know.) Seeing this, the owner decided that he would like me to be on research and development for the company. I sincerely loved what I was doing, but soon realized that I was doing for someone else what I wanted to be doing for myself, and that required me to part ways with Uncle Paulie.
I met my wonderful wife behind the table selling hot sauce at Pike Place Market. For 5 years, I sold her hot sauce without the benefit of her knowing my name, nor me hers. We finally made formal acquaintances when we exchanged names and with our fanatical love for hot sauce, we realized that we were a match only found in fairytales. Soon thereafter, Grimm was born
With the utmost gratitude, we have had the benefit of selling hot sauce all over the Pacific Northwest. We have gotten to meet and know some great people, from Portland to Pasco, and from Elma to Monroe. We are passionate about developing and delivering the highest quality of product to enhance whatever you may have on your plate. So, please join us in whenever you think of Grimm, think GREAT-ful!
